On leadership, risk, and operational excellence.

David on Risk is where I explore performance improvement and operational effectiveness, decision-making under operational and loss risk, and workplace and premises safety through field experience and practical lessons.

After decades working across high-risk environments, from tech to manufacturing to hospitality, I’ve seen how much risk depends on context, judgment, and human behavior.

This isn’t just about incident prevention.

The same principles that drive operational excellence are what make risk manageable: clear systems, capable people, and honest feedback.

Better decisions come from better systems.

Managing risk well is what enables bold action, innovation, and growth, whether in personal decisions or organizational systems. This site brings together practical, field-tested lessons about how people and systems actually work, and how the right approaches create confidence for venturing boldly.

About

David Natalizia

I bring over 25 years of experience to the intersection of workplace safety, operational excellence, and risk management. My career has been defined by a simple reality: better decisions come from better systems.

From the high-tech precision of semiconductor manufacturing and cloud computing to the complexities of hospitality, theme parks, and global manufacturing, I have helped organizations move beyond mere compliance to achieve true operational resilience. As an operations and risk consultant, I focus on transforming complex risk data into grounded, actionable analysis.

Strategic Expertise

  • Operational Improvement: Developed and implemented comprehensive programs for semiconductor facilities, data centers, hotels, and retail operations.
  • Process Safety & Risk Programs: Extensive experience building and managing programs that utilize PSM (Process Safety Management) and RMP (Risk Management Plan) frameworks for high-hazard environments.
  • Slip, Trip, and Fall Prevention: Specialized in program development and providing expert courtroom testimony for major hospitality and foodservice brands.

Standards & Industry Contributions

I am deeply involved in the standards that shape our industry, focusing on the practical application of:

  • ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety).
  • ANSI Z590.3 (Prevention through Design).
  • ASTM F1637 (Standard Practice for Safe Walking Surfaces).

I believe in contributing to the “Body of Knowledge” through research published by the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and regular presentations at national Professional Development Conferences. My goal is to bridge the gap between regulatory theory and field-tested reality.
